Message from Mr Weller
This week we had our parent teacher meetings which run twice a year. We hope you appreciated the opportunity to spend some time with your child’s class teacher discussing how they are settling into their new year groups and the progress they are making. It was lovely to see so many of the ‘Parent Proud Postcards’ being used to celebrate their work. The children have spoken enthusiastically about receiving these.

Year 1 Visited Slimbridge
Year 1 visited Slimbridge Wetlands this week. We had a great time exploring the beautiful grounds, completing the nature activities and spotting lots of animals along the way, including frogs, swans, an otter and even some flamingos! We also met Ava the osprey, who told us all about her journey to Slimbridge and the importance of looking after nature. She also told us that we are all Guardians of the Wild, whose job it is to protect our environment. We can’t wait to complete more nature challenges now we are home and also return to Slimbridge with our family passes!

Year 4 – save the date….
Year 4 parents are invited into school after drop off on Wednesday 18th November to take part in a Times Table learn along. At the end of Year 4 children have to complete a Multiplication Table Check which is a statutory requirement across the country. We would like to model our approach to teaching and learning the times table facts, share activities that could support at home and also have you do some learning alongside your children.
We will start at 9:00 but you are welcome into the hall once the gates are closed.
If you are unable to make it this time, we hope to arrange further slots, so please do let us know.’

Spare socks, pants, t-shirts
Reception would love donations of spare socks, pants, tights, leggings trousers and T-shirts. Many Thanks

Friends of St Werburgh’s – Annual General Meeting
We would love to invite you to our AGM on Thursday 12th November at 6pm in Willow Hall. It’s a relaxed chance to meet the committee, hear what your fundraising has achieved and help shape the year ahead. Everyone’s welcome!
FSWP exists to make a positive difference to every child at St Werburgh’s. We create more opportunities, experiences and positive outcomes by funding the extras that make school life more magical: playground improvements, class trips, performances, cultural experiences and resources the school might not otherwise be able to provide.
As with every year, we will also be voting in our trustee roles. These roles are really important because without a Chair, Secretary and Treasurer, we couldn’t continue running as a charity, putting all the events and fundraising that support our children at risk. Our lovely Treasurer, Katy Ross, is stepping down this year, so we’re looking for someone new to take on the role! If you’re interested or would like to find out more, please email us at [email protected].
Ps. We would like to say a huge thanks to Katy for all of her hard work!
See you there

School Streets Consultation
School Streets – Proposed trial of ANPR camera enforcement at St Werburgh’s Primary School (Mogg Street site)
Bristol City Council are seeking views on a proposed trial using Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) camera enforcement at St Werburgh’s Primary School (Mogg Street site) School Street.
The trial would use an ANPR camera to:
- Replace the temporary barriers stewarded by school staff, removing the need for school staff to enforce timed restrictions on the street
- Make enforcement easier, improving the road safety for children and families attending the school
- Automatically issue Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) for vehicles entering the School Street zone during the restricted times who do not have a valid exemption
The current timed restrictions (8.30 to 9.15am and 2.45pm to 3.30pm, Monday to Friday during term-time only) of the zone would not change. The permanent one-way system (24 hours a day, 7 days a week) on part of Mogg Street would also remain in place.

Breakfast Club
Dear Parents/Carers,
We would like to remind all parents and carers that children must be booked onto Breakfast Club in advance, even if they are attending a free session.
Having an accurate register is essential so that we know how many children will be attending each morning and can ensure that we have appropriate staffing levels in place. It is also an important safeguarding requirement, as we need to know exactly which children are in our care.
If your child is not booked onto the MagicBooking register, unfortunately they will not be accepted into Breakfast Club.
We have also noticed that some children have been arriving at Breakfast Club and being dropped off without a parent or carer accompanying them. For safeguarding purposes, parents/carers must remain with their child until they have been safely handed over to a member of the Breakfast Club team.
We appreciate your cooperation with these procedures. They are in place to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children attending Breakfast Club and to help the club run safely and smoothly each morning.
If you have any questions or need assistance with booking your child onto Breakfast Club, please get in touch with us.
Thank you for your understanding,
JAG team
Attendance
Attendance
As we move into a period where coughs, colds and seasonal illnesses are more common, we understand that it can sometimes be difficult for parents/ carers to decide whether their child is well enough to attend school. School attendance is vital for children’s learning, wellbeing and wider development, and is a strong protective factor for all children and young people, especially the most vulnerable. Missing school due to illness should only be where necessary.
More information on when you should keep children away from educational and early years settings can be found on the NHS website (Is my child too ill for school? – NHS and poster below).
The ‘Caring for children with cough’ leaflet (Caring for Babies and Children with Cough) was produced by researchers at the University of Bristol after extensive work with parents. It explains what parents should do when looking after a child with a cough and when parents should take their child to see a doctor.
Closing a school or early years setting should be a last resort. Any decision to close a setting on Public Health grounds should be discussed in an Incident Management Team meeting and support sought from the UK Health Security Agency and Local Authority Public Health Team.

Mobile Phones and Smart Watches
Another reminder to parents that mobile phones should not be brought in to school.
If they are brought into school we will ask the children to lock them away in safes in their classroom. This includes Smart Watches – so please ensure these are kept at home.
Recent changes in the law, and changes to Keeping Children Safe in Education make it very clear that we need to support children in reducing their screen time and ensuring their safety when they are online. In school we have strict filtering and monitoring to ensure their safety.
For more information on online safety please check out our Online Safety page on our website – https://www.stwerburghs.amplifyeducation.co.uk/page/?title=Online+Safety&pid=106.
Healthy Choices
This is another reminder to parents that as a Healthy School, we aim to promote healthy choices and wellbeing throughout the school day. At break time, children should bring a healthy snack, such as a piece of fruit or vegetables. Please do not send sweets, chocolate or other sugary snacks. If your child brings a packed lunch, we also encourage families to make healthy choices and provide a balanced lunch to help children stay energised and ready to learn throughout the afternoon.
We know that birthdays and other special occasions are exciting times for children and families. In school we will be celebrating the children’s birthday’s in class. Due to allergy law changes we are asking parents to NOT bring in any food to share for birthdays or any celebrations.
We would like to remind parents that WE DO NOT ALLOW NUTS.
