Welcome to St Werburgh’s Primary School’s newsletter.
We welcome you to our new platform called ECKO.
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome to a new school year! We are really looking forward to the year ahead and are excited to get to know the children and to work together with you and your families. We want all children to enjoy their time at school, make full use of opportunities to grow in confidence, develop their independence and build on all the fantastic learning they have already done.
On Wednesday 9th September between 3.30 and 4.00pm classrooms will be open for you to pop in and visit your child’s learning environment, and ask their teacher any questions you may have.
To help everyone get off to a smooth start, we have a few friendly reminders about our daily routines and some useful links and information.
How was your Child’s Summer break?
We would like to find out about your child’s Summer holiday and how they are feeling about returning to school on Monday. The information you provide will be used to support them with their return to school.
Forms close at 8pm on Monday 7th September – so please complete this over the weekend.

Please Label everything!
Children have lots of belongings with them throughout the school day, so please make sure that all clothing and property is clearly labelled with your child’s name.
This includes jumpers, cardigans, coats, water bottles, lunchboxes and anything else they bring into school. This makes it much easier for us to reunite lost items with their owners!
We cannot be responsible for lost items if brought into school, so please keep anything valuable or precious at home when possible.
Building Independence
As children move through Year 1 and Year 2, we encourage them to become increasingly independent. Children are expected to enter school without a parent or carer, so please try to say your goodbyes outside the school building. We know this can sometimes feel like a big step, but developing confidence in managing the start of the school day independently is an important part of growing up.
Mobile Phones and Smart Watches
Another reminder to parents that mobile phones should not be brought in to school.
If they are brought into school we will ask the children to lock them away in safes in their classroom. This includes Smart Watches – so please ensure these are kept at home.
Recent changes in the law, and changes to Keeping Children Safe in Education make it very clear that we need to support children in reducing their screen time and ensuring their safety when they are online. In school we have strict filtering and monitoring to ensure their safety.

Healthy Choices
As a Healthy School, we aim to promote healthy choices and wellbeing throughout the school day. At break time, children should bring a healthy snack, such as a piece of fruit or vegetables. Please do not send sweets, chocolate or other sugary
snacks. If your child brings a packed lunch, we also encourage families to make healthy choices and provide a balanced lunch to help children stay energised and ready to learn throughout the afternoon.
We know that birthdays and other special occasions are exciting times for children and families. In school we will be celebrating the children’s birthday’s in class. Due to allergy law changes we are asking parents to NOT bring in any food to share for birthdays or any celebrations.
We would like to remind parents that WE DO NOT ALLOW NUTS.

Swift Kitchen- Lunch Reminders and information
This is just a reminder that School Lunches need to be booked by 9am each morning. If your child is entitled to a free school lunch – this still needs to be booked on Swift Kitchen for each day.
When booking you are able to book for a month in advance.
Please help the admin team by ensuring that you have booked your child’s lunch!
